These land best one a day — today’s work needs a day to actually happen. Nothing expires and you can’t fall behind; whenever you come back, it’ll be here.
One breath, your own eyes, and three words you have probably never said to yourself.
You look in a mirror most days. You almost never look at yourself in one.
There’s a difference. One is a glance on the way out the door — checking, scanning, fixing. The other is stopping, breathing, meeting your own eyes, and staying there a second longer than is comfortable.
And then saying the thing: I am enough.
It is going to feel ridiculous. Your face may do something strange. You may want to laugh, or look away, or cry, and any of those is a perfectly reasonable response — because for most people who take care of everyone else, this is the first time in years anyone has said it to them, and it had to be them.
Do it anyway. That flinch you feel is not proof it isn’t true. It’s proof of how long it’s been since anyone said it.
Go find a mirror and stand in front of it. Bathroom, car, phone camera — it all counts.
Take one full breath. All the way in, all the way out. Don’t skip this part; it’s what turns a glance into a moment.
Look yourself in the eye — actually in the eye — and say it out loud: I am enough.
Stay there one beat longer than you want to. Then go on with your day.
Write down at least one thing you appreciate about yourself.
If nothing comes, that isn’t a failure. It’s the most important thing you could tell me. Write that instead.
“It is not vanity to look at yourself kindly. It is the first repair.”
