These land best one a day — today’s work needs a day to actually happen. Nothing expires and you can’t fall behind; whenever you come back, it’ll be here.
There is no rush today, and nothing you write here can be wrong.
Everyone is carrying something.
A thing they did. Or didn’t do. Or couldn’t do, though they have never once accepted that they couldn’t. And ever since, quietly, they have been paying for it — in a currency nobody else can see.
Here is the part almost nobody says out loud. The reason you can’t put yourself first is very often that somewhere inside, you don’t believe you have earned it. That the debt isn’t settled. That people who did what you did don’t get to rest.
So today is not about deciding it didn’t matter. It did matter — that’s precisely why it’s still here, and I’m not going to insult you by waving it away.
Today is about something else entirely: deciding that you have paid enough. You have been serving a sentence that nobody handed down, and you are allowed to stop serving it.
Listen to the whole thing before you write anything. Some of it may land hard. That’s allowed, and so is stopping partway and coming back.
Name it. Not the tidy version you’d give someone at work. The real one.
Then finish the sentence below — and say it out loud, once, to nobody. Out loud matters. It is the difference between thinking a thing and releasing it.
I release myself of the burden of…
Nobody is going to read this and think less of you. That is the entire point of today.
“You have been serving a sentence that nobody handed down. You are allowed to stop.”
